Hana’s Story

Hana has over a decade in the customer service industry. Through working in retail and investment banking, her award winning focus on the client experience, feedback and researching competing technology solutions has set her up for success in the field of product design.

Her unknowing start to UX started when she was asked to pitch an idea to increase the ratings TD Waterhouse clients would leave after their phone channel interactions. Her first instinct was to walk out on the trading floor and talk to the representatives that had scripts to follow and asked what wasn’t working. Once she got that insight, she presented her findings to the AVP of TD Direct Investing and from then on, optimizing an experience was her calling.

When she moved to RBC Dominion Securities and noticed that the enterprise solutions the advisors were using weren’t organized when servicing a book of high net worth clientele, she completed product research and findings to iterate how investment advisors would manage client roster.

The start of 2020, she decided to pivot her career from finance to product. She took formal education in UX Design and proactively learned about product management to better deliver value to businesses.

She has spent the last 5 years working in the ad tech and digital government space. Holding various roles in content, service, UX design and Product Management. She has experience creating components and relaunching 2 design systems, evaluating products for public launch through AODA and WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 requirements and leading the go to market strategy for numerous products and services for the citizens of Ontario.

In 2023 Hana participated in the Microsoft and Ontario Government Hackathon, demonstrating with her team an enterprise solution using Microsoft Power Apps, winning the spirit award with the team.

That experience gave her the curiosity to take the Scrum Alliance’s Product Owner Certificate and receive a full Government of Canada Scholarship for a Software Engineering Diploma.

Hana has also been a guest lecturer for Humber College for their post graduate UX certificate program. She conducted lectures on accessibility, working in the public service, service design and product management. She has mentored over 50 product design candidates with their portfolio submissions, career goals and networking strategies.

Hana being the product enthusiast that she is has participated in Hackathons hosted by Scotiabank, Adidas and most recently with her Software Engineering group, won the 2024 Telus and BrainStation hackathon using AI to solve a customer packaging problem for their bundled subscriptions.

Hana is the epitome of  a product designer, constantly curious. Always wanting to understand what other roles, other disciplines and other people do to help create the best value for end users, both internal and external. Her goal is to lead with empathy, provide value and ensure inclusivity with every product, service or environment she is a part of.
